Seminar example: Inductive Power Transfer: An Introduction

Inductive power transfer (IPT) has found applications in low power home appliances, biomedical implants and high power electric vehicles. This seminar serves as an introduction to the technical aspects of the IPT technology. Specifically, a brief historical development of wireless power transfer, electrical model of IPT transformer and its compensation technique, current research trends of IPT converter and transformer will be given.

Biography of the speaker:

Dr Siu-Chung Wong received the B.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Hong Kong in 1986, the M.Phil. degree in electronics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1989. With the support of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 1993 to 1997, he received the Ph.D. degree at The University of Southampton, United Kingdom in 1997. Dr Wong joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1988 as an Assistant Lecturer. He is currently an Associate Professor of the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he conducts research in power electronics. Dr Wong is a senior member of the IEEE and a member of the Electrical College, The Institution of Engineers, Australia. He serves as an editor of the Energy and Power Engineering journal and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Electrical and Control Engineering. He serves as a Guest Associate Editor of IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics, Special Issue on Power Electronics for Biomedical Applications, 2014. He serves as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems-II: Express Briefs.
